Memorial of St Rita of Cascia

Memorial of St Rita of Cascia

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 19:1-8, Jn 16:29-33. God the Father is with us as He was with Jesus during His public ministry. The risen Lord Jesus is also with us as the Holy Spirit is poured into our hearts. Even when alone, we are always in the presence of God, we are living members of that wonderful family of love.

This awareness can bring us a deep peace, a peace the world cannot give. As Jesus says in today’s Gospel, “in me you will have peace.” St Rita of Cascia whose memorial we celebrate was much aware of the Divine presence and dedicated her life to the service and the glory of God. She was married at a very young age by her family and despite her desires to enter a convent even from an early age, she remained as a good and faithful wife to her husband, who was quick-tempered and immoral in nature. She was remembered for her efforts in trying to change her husband’s ways, in the marriage that lasted for eighteen years until her husband and sons passed away.

May the grace of the Holy Spirit come upon us, so that we may hold fast to the will of God with fidelity and show it forth in a holy life! Amen!! Have fruitful week!!!
