The Memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus

The Memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Tim. 1:1-8, Mk 4:21-25. In today’s first reading, Paul recalls that Timothy’s faith was influenced by the example of his mother and grandmother. Paul encourages Timothy to continue to build on that strong foundation and share the Gospel with others. We can point to parents, grandparents and various other companions on the pilgrimage of life, without whom we would not have come to faith in the Lord. As Paul needed Timothy and Titus and Jesus needed many workers, we need each other’s witness if the gift that God gave us in baptism is to be fanned into a living flame. As we commemorate the memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, we ask the Lord to increase our faith so that we can be a support to one another in living out our baptismal calling.

Jesus echoes such instruction by telling his followers to put the light of their faith on a lampstand and to share it generously. We can share our faith in many ways, according to our state in life. Just as Paul needed associates to work with him, Jesus also needed associates to share in His ministry. That is why we find Him in today’s Gospel appointing seventy-two and sending them out ahead of Him; it was not enough just to appoint the twelve. Indeed, as He sends out this large group, He asks them to pray to the Lord of the harvest for more workers for the Lord’s harvest. Indeed, the Lord needs us; we are called to be His co-workers, proclaiming by our lives that: “the Kingdom of God is very near to you.” If the Lord needs us to share in His work, we, in turn, need each other’s support if we are to respond to that call.

May the Lord deepen our awareness of His presence and teach us reverence and love for all that is created! Amen!! Good morning and have a glorious day!!!
