Unless we become like little children, we cannot sincerely respond to the demand of the Kingdom of Heaven

Ezk. 2:8-3:4, Mt. 18:1-5.10.12-14. Being in deep relationship with God may seem difficult especially at the beginning of our faith journey, but the more we accept the relationship, the easier it becomes. Today's first reading recounts the beginning of Ezekiel's ministry. He was asked to take the scroll of God’s word and consume it, not just by reading it and knowing it, but by eating it and devouring it so that it becomes a part of him. Although it may seem a bit unusual to eat the scroll, Ezekiel does what God commanded and he found the written word of God to be sweet and tasteful. This symbolised Ezekiel's willingness to walk in the path of God and how he was willing to let God guide him in what he was called to do. As God’s prophet, Ezekiel would go on with great deeds among the people and he continued to labour hard among the Israelites in exile, calling on them to abandon their sinful way of life, which had led to their downfall.

Today's Gospel also reminds us of God's love for us and the need for our sincere response in fidelity. Unless we become like little children, with regards to our faith, we cannot sincerely respond to the demand of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus calls on us to welcome little children, so as to welcome Him into our presence. In order for Him to lead us in the right path, we need to open our hearts to be humble and be willing to let God guide us in the right path. The question, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” can only be answered in our submission to learn from God our Father; it requires that we become child-like as we rely on God's providence. Greatness comes to those who make themselves as dependent on God as children are dependent on adults for their care and well-being. This recovery of the “little one” is true of us as individual, community and the Church as a whole.

May the Lord grant us the strength to draw closer to God, find our way to the salvation He has promised and be more committed to serve Him in simplicity of our hearts! Amen!! Good morning and have a glorious day!!!
