The Father is in Me and I Am in the Father

The Father is in Me and I Am in the Father

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Jer. 20:10-13, Jn 10:31-42. Today’s first reading reports the increasing tension between Jeremiah and his audience. Even those who were once considered his friends turned against him. Jeremiah cried out to God for help as he spoke of God who “has rescued the life of the poor.” The parallel to Jeremiah can be seen in Jesus. Jeremiah and Jesus were hounded by friends and even close relatives who turned against them. This teaches us that former companions can change their attitudes when they feel their own personal interests or security threatened. Both were condemned because they upset the accepted legal system by shifting concern from ritualism to caring for actual people.

In today’s Gospel, the Jews strongly oppose Jesus because of the claims He made about Himself. “You are only a man and you claim to be God,” they said. Jesus went on to say of Himself: “I am the Son of God, the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Jesus averted that He had a unique relationship with God, such that whoever sees Him sees God, the Father. Since, Jesus is the revelation of God, the healing works that He did were the work of the Father. God’s work is being shown in Jesus. God will always be a mystery to us, but Jesus has unveiled that mystery to draw us into the life of God. He has revealed that God is, ultimately, the fullness of Love.

May the Lord show us the treasure of His love and grant us His salvation! Amen!! Have a blessed day!!!
