That your love for me may live in them

That your love for me may live in them

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 22:30; 23:6-11, Jn 17: 20-26. Today’s first reading presents Paul’s defense before the Sanhedrin. Being aware of the differences between the Pharisees and Sadducees, Paul aligned himself with the Pharisees (Acts 23:6) and emphasises on the believe in the resurrection of the dead. Besides the wisdom which Paul exhibits in causing the members of the Sanhedrin to disagree among themselves, we must realise how disagreement about theological issues could tear us apart.

Thus, in today’s Gospel, Jesus urges His followers towards a shared vision of goodness, kindness, peace and justice. Basically, this unity was to be modelled upon that of the Holy Trinity. Jesus in turn will share with His disciples the glory given to Him by the Father before the world began: “so that your love for me may live in them, and I may live in them.” Jesus puts before us a vision that should lead us to unite around His table. It is a desire that He personally holds dear: “with I in them, and you Father in me, may their unity be complete.” If we love Him, we must make His vision a reality.

May the Lord in His infinite Love and Goodness help us to grow in love and harmony to proclaim His justice and truth in the world! Amen!! Have a terrific day!!!
