I am the way, and the truth, and the life

I am the way, and the truth, and the life

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 13:26-33, Jn 14:1-6. In today's first reading, Paul proclaimed all the works of Jesus Christ, the Saviour who came amidst the Jewish people and as one of their own. Paul spoke of the wonders and works the Lord and how He was rejected, condemned to death, but now alive. Also, Paul and the other disciples of the Lord faced series of dangers and challenging situations, yet they dedicated their lives to God and ultimate victory in the end. The sufferings of the Apostles and the many other disciples, the saints and many of the martyrs remind us of just how difficult it is to follow the Lord and how complicated it may be for us to commit ourselves as Christians. Today, we are challenged not to lose heart because the Lord has reassured us of His providence and love.

In today's Gospel, Jesus reassures us of the bounty and true joy that awaits all who endured to the end, despite the challenges and trials of this world. As frail beings, there are times when all hope is lost and are assailed by doubt. At a moment when the whole world seems to be against us and our plans are not working according to what we desire, we need to trust in God and in Jesus. Here is where faith in God and the readiness to follow the teaching of Jesus, the Way, True and the Life can give our lives meaning and direction. The ways Jesus proposes for us to live our life are: to be generous and selfless in giving, to treat others as we want others to treat us, to forgive our offender from our heart. The statement: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me," made by Jesus is a promise, a word of comfort to everyone who trust in Him absolutely. Jesus is all we need; there is no need to panic, no need to search anymore.

May the Lord lead us from untruth to truth, darkness to light and death to eternal life! Amen!! Good morning and have a pleasant day!!!
