He will calm the storms of your life

He will calm the storms of your life

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Sam. 12:1-7.10-17, Mk 4:35-41. Even kings share the human weaknesses of other mortals, as today's first reading portrayed in the story of David. His affair with Bathsheba was based on lust and arrogance. Yet the prophet Nathan speaks of the judgment of God which cuts through all excuses. Through a parable of unjust rich man who entertained his visitor with the poor man's ewe, Nathan made David decree his own condemnation: “You are the one who did wrong. Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you despised me in taking the wife of Uriah to be your wife.” Through that rebuke from the prophet Nathan, the Lord reminded David that what he has done was truly a great sin before God and was unbecoming of him as the one chosen to be king of Israel. Even with David’s heartfelt contrition and God’s forgiveness, David realised there are some consequences of his sin and the fact that he must face those consequences.

We also need to humbly approach God in our weakness and uncertainty. We must always understand that we cannot pass through life without challenges. Yet if we trust that Jesus abides with us and allow Him to direct us, there would not be need to be afraid when faced with the storms of life. When the disciples were in the middle of the storm, they prayed aloud to Him: "Lord, save us." In today’s Gospel we find another prayer of the disciples: "Lord, increase our faith." It is a prayer we need to make our own. Before Jesus’ challenging message, the disciples felt their need of more faith: "Increase our faith." In reply, Jesus declares that the faith like the size of a mustard seed can do extraordinary things. The Lord can work powerfully through our little faith. Even if we feel our faith is weak at times, we can thank God for our little faith, because the Lord can do great things with it. We can never underestimate how the Lord can work in and through our little faith, if we let Him.

May the Lord calm for us all the storms of our life and as we come to the end this week, so shall all the troubles and storms of our life come to an end! Amen!! Good morning and happy weekend!!!
