CYON IBADAN SUMMIT ENDS

THE CATHOLIC YOUTH Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province held “Your Best Team Summit” at the Pastoral Institute, Bodija, Ibadan between 25 and 28 July.

Five delegates each from the Archdiocese of Ibadan and the dioceses of Ilorin, Osogbo and Oyo participated in the competition facilitated by the Inspire Youth Network Nigeria, founded by Rev. Fr Victor Makinwa Ogunyemi.

Fr Ogunyemi spoke on issues affecting the youth apostolate and the Church and proposed some solutions contained in his book, “A voice for the youth.”

Rev. Frs Phillip Onifade, Michael Woods and Kenneth Adesina and Rev. Sr Elizabeth Agwu were on ground to answer questions from the participants.

With three gold medals won in quiz competition, Best Figure of Faith and Bible memorisation and two silver medals in paper presentation and debate, Oyo diocese came first at the summit. Osogbo diocese was second with two gold medals in debate and paper presentation; one silver medal in Best Figure of Faith and two bronze medals in Bible memorisation and quiz competition. Ilorin diocese came third with three medals: one silver medal in Bible memorisation and two bronze medals in debate and Best Figure of Faith. Ibadan archdiocese won one silver medal in quiz competition and a bronze medal in paper presentation.

Rev. Fr Michael Woods, Ibadan archdiocesan youth chaplain, in his homily at the closing Mass, urged the youth to surrender all and give their best in service to God who will in turn manifest in their lives.

In her closing remarks, Miss Martha Ibijade, provincial youth president, appreciated Ibadan archdiocese for hosting the programme and thanked Fr Ogunyemi and his team of volunteers for facilitating the programme.
