PARISHIONERS OF SS Peter and Paul Pro-Cathedral, Lagere, Ile-Ife, Osun State have been tutored on depression, which is considered as one of the major causes of suicide in the world.

Dr (Mrs) Oyinade Ijaduola, who gave the lecture on 19 November, rated depression as the cause of 90 per cent suicide.

Dr Ijaduola described it as the common code of mental illness and highlighted anxiety, excessive thinking, migration, heart failure, unemployment, pregnancy anxiety, disease as causes of depression.

She frowned on the habit of pregnant women bothering themselves on the outcome of their delivery. The doctor, however, encouraged parishioners to always prevent themselves from any kind of disease. Go for frequent check up at the hospital, she said, and listed compassion, communication, counselling as some of the ways of preventing suicide.

Be your brother’s keeper and seek one another when you notice any difference in a person, she added.
