FRIENDS, FAMILY members, well-wishers with many lay faithful of Lagos gathered at St Patrick’s, Igbogila – Ipaja on Tuesday 26 December to celebrate and rejoice with the chairman, Lagos Archdiocesan Laity Council, Prince Joseph Eyeowa on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

Rev. Fr Gabriel Ugorji, assistant Parish Priest, during homily, enjoined Christians to imbibe the spirit of letting go of things that are beyond their control and develop positive attitude to issues in life.

According to Fr Ugorji, Catholics are to lead a life of gratitude to God in all circumstances, noting that this and the attitude of letting go not only make a person live long, they also enable one to move forward in life.

While describing Prince Eyeowa as a very contended, unassuming and humble personality, the priest asserted that the celebrant is a gift to the church in view of the services he has rendered to the church in various capacities and called on all present to emulate the celebrant’s life style.

In his goodwill message, the President of the National Laity Council of Nigeria, Sir Thomas Adekoya (KSJ), showered encomiums on Prince Eyeowa. He pointed out that the celebrant is not only meek and gentle, but also highly dedicated and reliable in all assignments he handles for the church.

Among many other speakers on the occasion was the celebrant’s childhood friend, Mr Lawrence Ladejobi, who told the gathering that his relationship with Prince Eyeowa began at Regina Mundi Catholic Church, Mushin, Lagos, many years ago.

 He disclosed that what he admired most in the celebrant is his willingness to always assist people around him, and that his love for service in the church influenced him greatly.

Prince  Eyeowa  was   formerly the President, Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria,(CYON) and among his children are Rev. Fr Emmanuel Eyeowa and Rev. Stephen Eyeowa.

Responding, Prince Eyeowa thanked all present for honouring his invitation, gifts and for all the good things said about him and pledged his readiness to continue to work for the church and the society.

The occasion, which was chaired by Mr. Robert Ughutevbe, featured the cutting the birthday cake, rendition of special numbers and entertainment of guests.
