CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH MODERATION, PRIEST ADVISES

REV. FR CALISTUS Afolabi, one of the recently ordained priests of Ibadan archdiocese, has advised Nigerians to celebrate Christmas moderately and “there is need to remember the poor and the needy around us.”

Fr Afolabi stated this at St Mary’s Cathedral, Oke-Padi, Ibadan, where a Christmas carol service was held on Sunday 17 December.

“Christmas is a season of joy, good tidings and love. Let us be modest in our celebration, and let us remember the poor and the needy around us,” he said.

Some of the bible lessons were taken by the Parish Pastoral Council chairman, Prof. Philip Ogunnaike; Parish Laity Council president, Mr Luke Adeyeye; Catholic Men Organisation president, Mr Matthew Akinwalere and the Catholic Women Organisation president, Mrs Pinheiro.

Choirs of St Jude’s, Iwo-Road; St Andrew’s, Oke-Bola; Divine Mercy, Monatan,  and the Holy Childhood Association as well as the choirs of some non-Catholic churches took part in the service.

V. Rev. Fr Gregory Oyelami, cathedral administrator, was grateful to the organisers and participants of the programme.
