Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened

Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Ex. 3:13-20, Mt. 11:28-30. Moses was unsure of his role when he was called and wanted assurance from the Lord. He was not confident of his abilities to do what the Lord entrusted him. In today's first reading, the Lord reassured him of His support and told him what he ought to say before the people of Israel. The Lord promised him that He will be with him and He sent Moses into their midst to be the one who would deliver them out of slavery and bring them into the promised land. God revealed to Moses what He will bring His people out of the land of Egypt. In order to carry out the Lord's command, Moses endured a lot of challenges throughout their journey through the desert. Moses endured a lot of troubles and pain, humiliations and pressure from the people, who refused to listen and defiantly disobeyed God and His laws. Yet, God was always with him, guiding him and providing him along the way.

God was always there for him, giving him guidance and strengthened him to carry on his duties as the leader of the whole nation. This is the kind of support Jesus speaks of in today's Gospel, when He says: "Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light." The yoke He speaks of are the challenges that we may have to endure as we remain faithful to our commitment. This yoke is lighter compared to the yoke of sin, which is the yoke of slavery and bondage caused by our sins and disobedience to God. The yoke of sin may seem to us to be less troublesome, more appealing and less painful, they may even seem to be enjoyable, but we must not be tempted or fooled by them.

May the Lord deepen our awareness of His presence and teach us reverence and love for all that He made! Amen!! Good morning and have a wonderful day!!!
